Stephen Omollo has extensive experience in leadership roles in the humanitarian and development sector, having previously served at a senior executive leadership with International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, Commonwealth Secretariat, Africa Union, World Vision International , Plan International and other agencies for more than 25 years. Before joining UN World Food Programme as Assistant Executive Director/Assistant Secretary General, Stephen worked with Plan International as Chief Executive Officer. Stephen also worked with World Vision International as Vice President & Regional Director for East Africa, leading large complex humanitarian response operations. He worked with IFRC as Under Secretary General (a.i.) for Humanitarian Diplomacy and as Global Director of Partnerships and Resource Development in Geneva. He has also served as IFRC’s Chief Diplomatic Officer in Geneva, and as Permanent Representative and Head of Africa Union Office in Addis Ababa. He was appointed by the Commonwealth Secretary General as Special Advisor and Director for Good Offices and Mediation Services – based at the Commonwealth Secretariat in London. During his time with the Commonwealth, he led and facilitated peace building and mediation envoy missions in Fiji, Vanuatu, Solomon Islands, Maldives, Cameroun and The Gambia. He has also served in various roles leading and coordinating large scale emergency response operations in positions including country Director, Regional Director, humanitarian coordinator notably in the Horn of Africa, West and Central Africa, Eastern and Southern Africa, and others. He holds a PhD in Political Science from University of York, UK, a Master’s degree in Management from Lancaster University, UK, a Master’s in Practicing Management from INSEAD, France, a Bachelor’s of Commerce degree from Lucknow University, India and a MIT Sloan Certification in Digital Business Strategy.
