From my first job working in a Science Shop (A.J.Brunnings Ltd) at 133 High Holborn London at the age of 10 my life has gone full circle. Brunnings Ltd was an amazing store, built into the facade of the disused British Museum Underground Station on the Central Line. The building as I remember was red brick upper floors and the ground floor was rusticated terracotta. One side of the shop was photographic equipment selling new and second hand cameras and lenses from all of the great manufacturers of the time. This side of the shop was much larger than the Science Equipment side, which was the left hand shop window and an area stretching back behind it. I would spend hours in there (before I was offered a Job with old George and Bernard) and it was stuffed full of all sorts of microscopy kit, with ranges of different types of microscopes, lenses, slides and lots of fauna preserved and ready for dissection. The ancient timber drawers and glass cabinets held all sorts of kit, glassware and laboratory items and chemicals that would never be allowed today! I would occationally be allowed down the many stairs where there was a gate that led to the old platform and the underground trains would wizz by! Back into the 21st Century and I find myself making up kits of similar items and products, with glassware and lenses and chemicals and instruments and realise that it was my destiny! With the wonderful addition of Intelligent Board Games and Escape room games the pictures complete.
