Stephen H. Kiviat has held senior management positions in industry leading manufacturing and marketing companies producing high quality, design driven products for the residential and commercial interior furnishings markets. His D+M interim management and strategic development practice serves a distinguished group of international manufacturers on a variety of assignments. An architect and interior designer, he is widely recognized as a pioneer in the marketing of modern design in the U.S. and has been quoted on the subject extensively in The New York Times, Fortune, Newsday, Architectural Digest, Interior Design, Interiors and Industrial Design. After graduating from Cornell and Harvard Universities Mr. Kiviat established his own design firm and simultaneously launched, as co-founder, Atelier International Limited; the importing and manufacturing company which introduced modern Italian furniture and lighting to the U.S. market. Having assumed the Presidency of Atelier he grew the company into an industry leader with a national network of company owned showrooms and high quality manufacturing facilities. Subsequently successfully negotiating Atelier’s sale to Steelcase Inc., the world’s largest office furniture manufacturer. In 1991 he established D+M to provide Corporate Boards, Investor Groups and CEO’s with operating management and new marketing strategies to accelerate sales and profit growth. Mr. Kiviat has served as a member of the Architectural Design faculty at The Cooper Union and The City College of New York and has served on the Cornell College of Architecture Advisory Council, The Corporate Advisory Council of the Museum of Contemporary Crafts, and The New York City Commissioner of Business Services Advisory Board.
