Companies covered by the European Union Emissions Trading System are required to surrender a certain number of EU Allowances (EUAs) each year to account for their greenhouse gas emissions. These allowances can be bought, sold, or traded on the market. The price of EUAs is determined by supply and demand, and it can be volatile due to various factors such as changes in regulations, economic conditions, and weather patterns.
