I use models and simulations to make better decisions about unclear, expensive, and risky planning problems.
Education and research on model-based decision support for socio-technical systems.
Model- and simulation-based analytical support for complex decision problems in the public domain.
Studying innovative methods of modelling and quantifying the resilience of complex agri-food systems. Synthesizing data and information from a variety of sources, developing models of complex systems, designing and executing simulation studies, analyzing large data sets, identifying and reporting novel insights and methods. Published an open-source Python package for visualizing agent-based models. Co-chair of the Modelling & Simulation Discussion Group, organizing regular workshops and round tables for the Wageningen University M&S community.
Supervised lab sessions and graded assignments for three graduate systems modelling courses: Introduction to Systems Modelling, Advanced Discrete Simulation, and Advanced System Dynamics. Explained and demonstrated practical applications of classroom theory for data analytics, modelling and simulation, and model-based decision making. Processed assignment submissions and graded project reports based on an independently developed and faculty-approved criteria catalog. Managed course content on the university's online learning management platform, including submission forms, feedback surveys and grade overviews.
Deployed as a staff officer to a NATO peacekeeping mission headquarters. Supported and advised military and civilian decision makers and planners with real-time and prepared intelligence about key actors and developing situations. Planned and led high-risk missions and training exercises. Liaised between subordinate units to synchronize planning and operations across a multinational force with over 4000 soldiers. Represented commanders at all pertinent briefings, meetings and conferences, facilitated communication between NATO, Swiss and other national units.
Planned and executed company-level exercises and training sequences to ensure readiness and maintain training standards in a conscript service unit of over 150 soldiers. Accompanied foreign diplomats and representatives as liaison officer. Prepared Swiss soldiers for missions abroad as an English language expert, administering training and standardized language assessments.
