Maarten Steinbuch is a high-tech systems scientist, serial tech entrepreneur and keynote speaker. He holds the chair of Systems & Control at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) (0,2 FTE) where he is Distinguished University Professor. He is most known for his work in the field of advanced motion control, as well as in robotics for high precision surgery. Steinbuch is a prolific blogger and a key opinion leader on the influence of new technologies on society. He is well known as an advocate of electric vehicles and airplanes. He received the M.Sc. degree (cum laude, 1984) & Ph.D. Degree (1989) from Delft University of Technology. From 1987-1998 he was with Philips Research Labs., Eindhoven as a Member of the Scientific Staff. From 1998-1999 he was manager of the Dynamics & Control group at Philips Center for Manufacturing Technology. Since 1999 he is full professor Systems and Control at the Mechanical Engineering Department of Eindhoven University of Technology. He was Editor-in-Chief of IFAC Mechatronics (2009-2015), and was chairman of the supervisory board of MyWheels, and is member of the supervisory board of the topsector HTSM, (adv) board member MAEVE Aerospace, Nobleo Technology, Lumo Labs, WorldEmp, ScoutInScience, DSPE, Saluqi Motors, Herlaer Energy, NPM Capital, IC Innovation Quarter, Simkinetics and The Sharing Group, and (co)founder of MI-Partners, Mechatronics Academy, Preceyes, MicroSure, Eindhoven Medical Robotics, ZEnMO, NRG2Fly and Steinbuch in Motion. He is a micro-investor and shareholder of MyWheels, Lightyear, MAEVE Aerospace, eFlight, Trabotyx and VivArt-X. He was Scientific Director of the TU/e High Tech Systems Center 2014-2020. Since 2018 he is Scientific Director of Eindhoven Engine. In 2003, 2005, 2008 and 2015 he obtained the 'Best-Teacher' award of the Dept. of Mech. Eng. In 2008 and 2014 his research group obtained the QANU excellence rating [5555]. In 2013 he was appointed Distinguished University Professor at TU/e. In 2015 he received the KIVI Academic Society Award, and in 2016 he was awarded as Simon Stevin Meester 2016, the highest Dutch award for Scientific Technological research. Maarten Steinbuch has numerous ISI (web of science) highly-cited papers, > 350 publications in ISI web of science and has > 4500 citations (H-index 39). In Google Scholar > 13000 citations, H-index 60. He is IEEE Fellow, IFAC Fellow and Fellow of the Netherlands Academy of Engineering.
