The PhD focuses on the inter-linkages between the bio-based economy and the circular economy, namely the "circular bioeconomy" and its contributions to climate change mitigation. I investigate Greenhouse-gas emission mitigation pathways for the global plastic sector based on biomass use, recycling and carbon sequestration in products. I do so via integrated assessment modeling of the global plastic sector and Life Cycle Assessments of bio-based plastics.
