As the founder of Mowat&daughter, I bring over 12 years of experience in textile design, specializing in creating bespoke prints and woven textiles. My work spans womenswear, menswear, soft accessories, branding and marketing patterns, homewares, and public art commissions. My expertise in prints, woven textiles, and genuine love for art and design ensure I deliver designs that resonate with customers and meet diverse creative needs. I collaborate with founder-led womenswear brands, start-ups, large retailers, mills, and print studios to craft designs that are unique and tailored to each client. Fabric co-ordination and design of woven and printed fabrics across a variety of products for Hawes & Curtis. This includes men’s formal and casual shirts, suiting, polo shirts and socks as well as ladies shirts, blouses and soft accessories including scarves. My role included the designing and ordering of fabric from Far Eastern and European mills and managing the logistics involved. From idea conception to product delivery, I maintain daily contact with a variety of international multi-product suppliers, with whom I have established great relationships throughout my career. I helped the head office team create quintessentially British menswear and womenswear ranges, timelessly stylish at their core, delivering innovative, quality pieces at outstanding value.
Worked as the UK designer for the supplier Zodiac Clothing LTD. Worked closely with buyers, designers and merchandisers, as well as instruct a team in India to develop, source and produce casual men’s and women’s shirts for retailers River Island, Burton, White Stuff, House of Fraser, Asda and Dickies; amongst other brands. In addition to this my role included in-house collection building, maintaining and updating fabric and sample archives and current collections, sample tech pack production, CAD instruction, compiling trend packs and reports, account set-up, development and management as well as being client-facing at meetings around the UK and international client meetings in India. Tasks also included chasing development and ensuring lead times and critical paths were adhered to.
Designing woven and printed textiles for shirts, both casual and formal, for the leading British high street retail outlets. This also includes fabric sourcing and development, working directly with mills in the Far East, account set-up, development and management, range building as well as being Client-Facing at local meetings around the UK and international client meetings in Hong Kong.
Selling fashionable and practical socks, tights and shoes to exclusive clients in a luxury retail outlet. I worked part time to fund my studies at Chelsea College of Art & Design.
