Skye (Xinyi) Gao is a creative technologist, designer, and multi-disciplinary artist dedicated to exploring the integration of living systems and human-machine interactions within the built environment. Her research and creative endeavors span interactive technology, computational art, and speculative design, focusing on the intricate and dynamic relationships between humans, non-human beings, and their surroundings. Skye’s practice delves into responsive environments, human-machine interaction, and bio-inspired design. She investigates how technology can transform experiences and understanding from a more-than-human perspective, with the vision of creating sustainable and responsive environments. Through her interactive media art, Skye aims to visually and conceptually address contemporary concerns, such as the juxtaposition of life and death in the digital era, while critically reflecting on the (post)human condition and its implications. Her skill set includes expertise in computational design, tangible interfaces, the Internet of Things, cognitive computing, real-time media design development, and interactive design. She leverages these skills to create innovative, interactive systems that promote the symbiotic relationship between technology, humans, and nature. Skye's work involves designing and implementing complex interaction systems that respond dynamically to environmental stimuli, fostering a deeper connection between users and their surroundings. Skye holds a Master of Design Studies (MDes) degree from Harvard Graduate of Design with a concentration in medium/technology and a B.Sc in Interactive Media Arts from NYU Shanghai.
