Graduate from the University of Sheffield, with a 1st class degree in Chemical Engineering in summer 2022. Since graduating, I have gained just under 3 years experience working at British Steel (a Top-Tier COMAH site) while working within in a Process Fuel Engineer position. This role has enabled me to apply the theoretical knowledge gained during my degree to the much larger scale of the Scunthorpe works, in particular, the safe and efficient management of gas consuming and distributions systems. Last year, I accepted the position of Process Fuel Engineer specialising in the ancillary gas systems (nitrogen, oxygen and natural gas). This has included decommissioning and commissioning oxygen and natural gas systems, calculations and forecasts relating to these systems, and studying the various gas and oxygen standards to ensure that safety is the priority at all times.
Process engineer role within the Fuel Utilisation Department of British Steel. This role includes: - Daily and monthly production reporting, statistical analysis, and performance monitoring towards various KPIs - Calculating planned production and performance figures - A leading role within the boundary gas monitoring upgrade project - Calculations of forecasted ancillary gas usage; accounting for on-site disruptions and breakdowns - Production of training and induction media - Experience with work packs and perimetry and working as an issuing authority as required - Purging, decommissioning and commissioning of gas mains and systems - Performing gas testing and issuing of gas clearance certificates - Performing risk assessments & producing SOPs and standard working procedures - Daily checks of the near miss & adverse incident databases - Training in work at height and breathing apparatus - Involvement in process safety: Hazard studies, HAZOP and LOPA - Producing PFD's - Basic SAP use - Being an on-call engineer
Graduate role - Technical (Process Fuel Engineer). This role included: - Gained experience with workpacks and permits and acted as an issuing authority as required. - Being a Breathing Apparatus wearer. - Purging, decomissioning and comissioning of gas mains and gas sytems. - Performing gastesting and issuing of gas clearance certificates. - An overhaul of the boundary monitor gas detection systems.
Maths consultancy role. Offer technical STEM related support and knowledge. Involved creating maths resources and syllabus’s for students of varying levels of mathematical abilities.
2 years volunteering in various locations in Australia. Also included leading and training teams of volunteers; including training and responsibility for their wellbeing. Participated in community service projects from helping the elderly in their gardens to packing and shipping tables and chairs from a local school to the pacific islands where schools did not have any. The leadership role also included coordinating meetings with groups of volunteers.
