It has the potential to fulfil a broader leadership function in skills development in the country”- Excerpt from "Ameliorating chartered accountants' training at a South African university : Interventions for reform" With the above extract, I am a Chartered Accountant with over 11 years of experience delivering complex technical accounting, audit and financial reporting advisory services to global financial services clients across Africa and Asia-Pacific. I want my qualification and work to contribute to the world and it is through this CA role in which I envisage I will make an impact, and through which I will fulfil my duties as an active global citizen.
Salient responsibilities include but are not limited to: ● Authored and reviewed technical IFRS papers – particularly financial instruments, derivatives/hedge accounting solutions, consolidations, fair value accounting, business combinations, and complex structured transactions - covering IFRS 9, IFRS 7, IFRS 13, IFRS 12, IAS 32, IAS 39, IFRS 10, IFRS 11, IAS 28, IFRS 3, IFRS 15 amongst others. ● Ocasionally assisted with US GAAP technical accounting queries (especially with respect to assessing disparate accounting treatments between IFRS and US GAAP for certain transactions). ● Supported clients in researching and evaluating various accounting policy options applicable to certain complex transactions. ● Recommended practical and strategic IFRS solutions (including transactions structuring) aimed at optimising financial positions and performance, while ensuring compliance with the relevant financial reporting frameworks and regulations. ● Prepared and facilitated IFRS training workshops for audit teams and clients focusing on upcoming IFRS amendments, new IFRS standards, interpretative guidance, agenda decisions and leading practices. Provided training updates focusing on developments and trends in the banking industry. ● Planned and monitored the delivery of complex engagements by allocating appropriate resources, clearly communicating expectations to guide teams towards efficient and effective performance and managing stakeholder relationships. ● Key clients served: Goldman Sachs, Prudential, Generali, AXA SA, Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank, Blackstone, Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (Asia), China International Capital Corporation Limited (CICC), Omni Bridgeway Limited, Sun Life, inter alia.
Salient responsibilities include but are not limited to: ● Led the impact assessment and implementation of IFRS 16 (lease accounting) and IAS 29 (hyperinflationary economies accounting), and advised on the necessary changes to existing business policies and processes , rewriting new accounting policies, and assisting in the redesign and testing of financial reporting systems. ● Prepared and delivered IFRS training workshops for business clusters and financial officers (IFRS amendments, agenda decisions, inter alia). ● Authored IFRS technical papers and secured audit buy-in for accounting and regulatory treatments of wealth management, retail and investment banking products and transactions. ● Reviewed financial reporting statements (Group and subsidiaries), to ensure compliance with applicable IFRS standards and regulatory requirements.
Salient responsibilities include but are not limited to: ● Authored and reviewed technical papers on a wide range of accounting topics (financial instruments, consolidations, share-based payments, employee benefits, provisions, inter alia) for SNG Grant Thornton clients. ● Reviewing financial statements of SNG Grant Thornton clients, to ensure conformity with applicable accounting framework and legislature. ● Managing, planning and assisting external clients with implementing pilot projects for new accounting standards. ● Preparing IFRS and GRAP training workshops for SNG Grant Thornton clients and audit teams. ● Key clients served : MTN, Stanlib, SARB, Eskom, Transnet, Denel, Pinnacle, Ubank, Mergence Group, inter alia.
Key responsibilities include but are not limited to: ● Planning and management of various audit teams and audit engagements, focusing on the compliance of IFRS , regulatory frameworks and international auditing standards. ● Completing intricate senior auditing sections. ● Enabling constructive communication between audit team, manager and engagement partner. ● Reviewing junior team members’ work.
Key responsibilities include but are not limited to: ● Assisting students in grasping a vast array of module principles, consultation on complex module issues and assistance with exam technique. ● Marking scripts, capturing results and invigilating test and exam sessions.
