My primary role is as Engagement Manager for the government-backed Highways England programme - Driving for Better Business but I also help deliver the award-winning Project EDWARD campaign as well as providing strategic consultancy to a small number of companies in the fleet and driver safety space. I manage the government-backed "Driving for Better Business" campaign on behalf of National Highways. The objectives are to raise awareness of work-related road risk and to encourage employers in both the private and public sector to improve the way they manage staff who drive for work. The programme supports National Highways in their aim to introduce the โSafe Systemโ of transport management for the Strategic Road Network where they are managing a ยฃ15 billion investment programme of upgrades and improvements. Engineering safer roads isnโt the sole answer though โ the safe system also requires safer drivers and safer vehicles which is where employers come in. Better management can ensure drivers are competent, eligible to drive on business, and working within sensible parameters, and that vehicles are properly serviced and maintained to reduce mechanical failures. I have devised and implemented a new comprehensive three year programme of communication, events and ongoing support including: - Fleet risk seminars and conferences - Webinars and digital updates - Social media campaigns across LinkedIn, Twitter and YouTube - PR and editorial in Fleet and Business publications - Public speaking and exhibitions - Partner marketing programmes - Regional stakeholder engagement programmes - Resources to support regional stakeholder events - Resources and support for employers - Employer recognition and Champion programme
Formerly known as AIRSO, The Association for Road Risk Management (ARRM) is the essential membership organisation for professionals and organisations involved in work-related road safety and the management of occupational road risk, collaborating with other organisations to promote innovation and share best practice. I held the position of Chair for almost seven years between October 2028 and June 2025.
We work with SMEs to ensure their driving at work policies and practices are compliant, and to help them reduce the frequency, severity and cost of collisions. We also promote the benefits of the latest pro-active vehicle safety systems, such as Autonomous Emergency Braking systems, to fleet decision makers, helping to communicate how these systems are proven to reduce collisions, save lives and prevent vehicle .
Duty of Care experts for managing those who drive on business, working in partnership with a number of key strategic partners including Volvo Car UK and Driving for Better Business. I ran the fleet risk consultancy arm of the business, advising clients on duty of care issues and compliance relating the Health and Safety at Work Act. The role comprised assessing a clientโs current position relating to regulatory compliance, recommending and implementing processes and procedures to ensure compliance, writing fleet safety policies, designing and implementing management and driver education programmes, working with senior management teams to ensure full awareness of issues including. - Driver licence checking & monitoring - Grey fleet vehicle checks - Online driver risk assessment - E-learning - In-car advanced driving skills courses - Best practice We work with those responsible for driver safety and compliance at large organisations in both the public and private sector, as well as with SME owner/managers, helping them to fully understand all the issues and risks involved in asking employees to drive on business. We then assist them in reaching informed decisions about the various solutions available so they can deliver the best results possible within their real-world business constraints of time and budget.
Turner Marketing was a design consultancy providing internal communications and training materials for a range of high-risk or heavily regulated businesses where staff awareness of duty of care issues, and compliance with established regulations is paramount including engineering and construction firms in the buildings, infrastructure and offshore sectors. As part of this business I also acted as consultant and member of the senior management team at clients Ultimate Car Control and The Segrave Club (further details below).
