About

I’m a hands-on data expert with a business background, driven by curiosity. I enjoy working on complex projects that require close collaboration between business and tech teams—especially when things are messy or unclear. I speak both “business” and “tech”: I help business teams ask the right questions, and I help technical teams make decisions that move customers toward their goals. I’ve spent years working in data warehouses and know my way around pretty much any architecture. I’m especially experienced with Teradata and SQL Server, and I’m comfortable working with Oracle, Snowflake and dbt. I'm also familiar with data engineering, project management and cybersecurity.

    • Analytics manager - Global Email Marketing
      Feb 2015 - May 2019 · 4 yrs 4 mos

Developed a new alghorythm to automatically measure eBay CRM campaigns. The tasks consisted of performing AB test measurement for ~500 marketing email campaigns a year. Each campaign targets between half a million and 50 million eBay customers. Previously a manual process managed by 5 dedicated data scientists in Shanghai. Using Python and SQL, I developed a totally new, fully automated process that measured all concurrent campaigns at the same time (as opposed to sequencially), every day, and fed results into eBay's existing visualization infrastructure (an R Shiny dashboard at the time). The task required a combination of domain knowledge (automation of dozens of use cases), data science techniques (AB testing, Python, Linux, Github), combined with deep SQL knowledge to allow Teradata to manage huge tables with billions of rows realiably, avoiding spool space or excessive CPU issues.
