About

Experienced hands on engineering leader with strong skill set grounded in web, mobile, and big data technologies. I've worked across diverse industries (real estate, govt/military security, social gaming, education, live entertainment/ticketing, video platform, performance improvement, healthcare, and LMS) and managed teams from 2 engineers to 70+ engineers distributed across 3 geographies. Working across various industries, I've been privileged to be part of teams building the worlds most secure USB drive + cloud services, the 4th largest game on Facebook serving 2.5 billion requests a day, world class analytics product ingesting billions of events a day with 2.5 PB of data under management, software servicing some of the top sports teams in the world, products supporting the most critical agencies in the federal government, and educational software distributed across 4000+ classrooms across the US. I have deep knowledge and experience across the technology stack, from HTML/CSS/Javascript/Android through the web tier and to the database (MySQL, Couchbase, MongoDB, Redis, Snowflake, Postgres, etc.). I try to remain technically agnostic, understanding that no single tool or technology solves every problem. From a leadership perspective I focus on three broad areas: people, operations, and technology. The intricate dependencies between these areas offer unique sets of challenges specific to each organization, but mapping these relationships and understanding them is key to building a cohesive, effective, performant, driven engineering organization. Finally, I pride myself on understanding and balancing the pragmatic nature of helping run a business with the strategic goals that must be met to drive growth. I'm a strong advocate for program management and the role it plays in catalyzing R&D efficiency and results, and have always felt there are a lot of parallels between how one designs and develops a distributed software architecture, and how one builds and runs an efficient team.
