About

For over 30 years I have been committed to furthering my recruitment and management competences. I have created recruitment companies & teams from scratch, sourcing and acquiring talent in diverse functional areas such as; Sales, Marketing, Supply Chain, Engineering, Manufacturing, HR, Finance (perm & Temp), IT, Social Care, and Technical/Scientific. I have also personally recruited on both a retained and contingent basis throughout my career. My largest personal placement fee was invoiced at £36k when I placed a Managing Director within the UK arm of a US defence technology business. My most pleasing 'corporate' success to date, was the foundation & development of 'The Angel Services Group' (now branded as 'Coburg Banks'), our own highly successful, multi-function recruitment firm. I sold my share in that business in 2014 to focus exclusively on growing a recruitment brand more synonymous with filling senior management and board appointments. 'Gerard Peters' which I founded in 2009, now supports a range of global customers, in precisely that capacity. We regularly fill senior vacancies for our clients with salaries ranging between £60 -£150k. I still get a huge 'buzz' from successfully delivering talent into businesses and am proud to have delivered excellent talent to industry hundreds of times, supporting each individual through their personal process. A Mechanical Engineering graduate, I have a logical, technical appreciation of both manufacturing and business process combined with a high level of broad technical awareness. These facets help me enormously in fully understanding and communicating complex situations & scenarios when liaising between hiring managers and candidates, as well as closing high level pitches and coaching teams I have lead. Specialities: Recruiting, Man Management, training, Assessment, Forecasting, Building Businesses, Psychometric Assessment, New Business Development, Account Management, Coaching, Mentoring, Engineering, Manufacturing & Technology

  • Regional Controller - 'Non-Finance' REcruitment Midlands at TMP E-resourcing (TMP were parent company of Monster.com)
    Aug 1998 - Feb 2002 · 3 yrs 7 mos

I set up and ran an 8 strong team of 'non-finance' recruiters covering positions from £25,000 to £80,000 across the Greater Midlands. While In this role I was also selected to be group brand champion for sales recruitment across all UK offices nationally, reporting and pitching to the board of directors each month, inputting on development strategy to improve output and performance. During this period, I was for a short time also seconded to manage a ten-strong office (of mainly Finance recruiters) in Nottingham and worked as a member of the National Business Development team who were tasked with 'Turbo-charging' vacancy leads which were deemed to offer development potential. This latter role meant I was regularly pitching nationally to a huge variety of industries on senior vacancies where 'retained business' may be a possible outcome. My earlier experience of winning National Accounts for a national recruitment business gave me a strong head start in this role and I enjoyed great success in supporting this group strategy.

  • National Account Director at Austin Benn - part of Corporate Service Group PLC
    May 1996 - Aug 1998 · 2 yrs 4 mos

I set up and managed a team of four national National Account Managers who were tasked with winning 'multi-vacancy' recruitment contracts with National clients in many industry sectors. Our sole task was to take vacancy leads from our national branch network and turn them in to national framework agreements, which in turn gave contractually bound clients, as controlled service levels and fees. It was calculated that at one point the revenues derived from our team comprised 20% of the revenue stream for AB branch network. I was a member of the senior management team and attended the monthly 'board meetings' at the CSG group HQ in Cambridgeshire.
