Overseeing the introduction of new products in the Heavy Section Mill. Including large structural sections and Zed Sheet Piling of 700mm width. Involving all aspects of Product & Process design including product specification, strategy and positioning, roll pass & guide design, process layout, quality performance, productivity performance, intellectual property, equipment and consumables specification and procurement.
The role is responsible for process design in Long Product Rolling Mills, specialising in hot rolling process technology for very large structural sections, rails, sheet piles, yellow goods market products and special bar quality mills. Ensuring that, from the contract tendering process through to the final commisioning and plant testing the most up to date process technology is applied to meet the client's business needs. The team is global, operating out of 4 countries in 2 continents, responsible for co-ordination, leadership and optimisation of activities.
Management of Capital investment projects relating to Process improvements, management and co-ordination of Long Product Mills rolling rolls supply chain, R&D programmes and process improvement teams. Most notable was the development of a new Rail Rolling process that enabled top quality high speed, 120m long rails to be rolled in a mill configured for Medium Section profiles. The process is patented.
