Greater London, England, United Kingdom
Simon is an experienced Architect and masterplanner, leading major projects in the UK and internationally. With extensive expertise in heritage planning and regeneration Simon has led the design and delivery of new city districts for Allies and Morrison and is the author of planning and characterisation guidelines ranging in scale from the city block to entire regions. Simon is currently working on a new creative innovation district in Abu Dhabi, re-purposing warehouses in the city’s port and developing plans for heritage-led tourism projects involving UNESCO World Heritage sites in Saudi Arabia. These include the AlUla Framework, recently recognised as an exemplar for Inclusive Community Development through Tourism by the 2020 G20 Leaders’ Declaration. Simon has worked in southeast Asia, directing a 72-hectare masterplan in Penang, currently under construction and in Singapore, where Allies and Morrison was runner up in the international open competition for the Jurong Lake District, organised by the city’s Urban Regeneration Authority. For several years, Simon was based in Doha leading Allies and Morrison’s work for Msheireb Downtown, one of the region’s most significant sustainability-led regeneration projects and the world’s largest group of LEED Gold and Platinum buildings. There he designed the project’s innovative courtyard-type townhouses, Eid prayer ground, Friday mosque and elements of urban infrastructure. In his role as the champion of the Architectural Design Guidelines he also reviewed and guided the design of over 100 buildings for the master developer. Building on his experience on the London 2012 Olympic Park and Legacy Masterplan and town centre regeneration projects in the UK, Simon has been leading plans for Brabazon, an urban extension on the north edge of Bristol that will transform the old Concorde airfield into a sustainable, mixed-use district set around a central runway park. He is also contributing to the practice’s further education estate planning in Cambridge, including work for Caius College and the Cambridge Biomedical Campus. Simon studied at the University of Cambridge and participated in the exchange programme with the Graduate School of Design at Harvard University. He worked in London for Foster and Partners and privately in Brooklyn, New York before joining Allies and Morrison in 2005.
