I have an entrepreneurial spirit and have Founded/Cofounded a number of Insurtech businesses going as far back as 2006 before Insurtech was a “thing”. Though I’ve been at it for 20 years, for me, Insurtech is still in its formative stages and there’s still a lot to do. Embedded insurance will be the Insurtech breakthrough that will transform insurance distribution landscape forever is my view. Embedded will enable every omni channel retailer to become an Insurtech. Retailers can add value to their clients by offering micro insurance policies conveniently at point of sale & at point of need. GenZ and Millennial buyers don’t want to buy insurance from a broker via an offline model and if the traditional insurance industry doesn’t move with them they will cease to be relevant in the future. The insurance distributor of tomorrow will not be a traditional insurance business and is probably not selling insurance at the moment. Embri is an Insurtech platform providing integrated and embedded insurance solutions to the high-end luxury retail sector. Embri delivers omni-channel solutions so retailers can provide customers with immediate cover at point of purchase, be it online or instore. Never again, should a client have to walk out of a store having purchased an item and risk returning home without having their purchase protected. With an embedded insurance offering, retailers can add extra value to the client experience, by offering them the protection they deserve whilst at the same time building an incremental and highly profitable income stream.
Quotall has undergone constant change over the last 10 years or so and is unrecognisable from where we started. The platform has evolved in line with consumer needs & expectations and our operating model has also evolved in line with the diverse needs of our clients. At the core of our proposition is our class leading, cloud based SaaS, Insurtech platform. It is a multi-tenanted environment and capable of deploying any type of insurance product quickly and efficiently. Whilst there are a multitude of insurance platforms on the market, very few can handle B2B2C etrading. This is our sweet spot. The Quotall platform is API based for effective integration to client web sites, point of sale systems, insurers, claims handlers, big data sources etc, Increasingly our customers are not from the insurance sector. They tend to be large corporates wishing to embed insurance offerings into their user journeys and we are also incubating a number of Insurtech startups. Quotall is made up of 5 separate operating units. Some clients use all; others just one or two: • Quotall Systems – SaaS/Cloud/etrading platform to transform digital B2B2C trading • Quotall Insurance Services- Our regulated entity authorisation provided by Movo • Quotall Consulting – Providing consulting services to source & deliver best in class products • Quotall Marketing – Providing insurance focussed marketing services covering branding, web site design, SEO optimised content, paid media programs, social media programs etc • Quotall Incubation – It has become much harder to start an Insurtech business and that’s where our incubation business comes in. To establish a startup insurtech you need a great idea & a great plan but then you need access to tech, regulatory services, capacity, demand gen expertise and (most importantly) capital. We’ve helped 2 startups get funded already with more in the pipeline.
NewBro is my advisory/NED/consulting business offering strategic consulting, mentoring and advice to both established businesses & start ups wishing to enter the insurance sector The primary focus is on helping the next generation of Insurtech entrepreneurs bring their vision to live. Services offered include: • Initial proposition evaluation • Business plan review and pitch advise. • Intro’s and recommendations on access to capacity, regulation, branding and technology • Business planning and advice on access to seed capital. Be it via HNW’s, Crowdfunding platforms or VCs. In some cases I may help by seeding the investment. My work with NewBro increasingly dovetails into Quotall as we expand Quotall’s SaaS platform as part of our Insurtech incubation offering.
Coverzones was my 1st foray into the scary world of being an entrepreneur. Founded in 2006 (nearly 20 years ago!) Coverzones was an online marketplace for SME insurance. Back in 2006 the word “Insurtech” hadn’t been invented but I’d argue that Coverzones was THE 1st Insurtech. Coverzones offered SMEs comparative quotes with full quote & buy capability and at its height provided offerings from 18 different insurers incl AIG, Brit, Hiscox etc. Frankly, looking at it today, digital distribution hasn’t moved that much further in the last 20 years.
