I am currently pursuing an MSc at Wilfrid Laurier University, working with my supervisor Dr. Heidi Swanson, the international FROST research project, and the community of Ikaluktutiak to quantify the bioaccumulation of mercury in Arctic lakes. Prior to my MSc, I worked at the IISD-Experimental Lakes Area as a member of the Hydrology and Limnology team after graduating from the University of Toronto. My past research has ranged from the effect of road salts on aquatic communities to the emergence phenology of endangered salamanders. I am broadly interested in questions that examine how human contaminants and disturbances are affecting aquatic communities. I'm passionate about approaching these questions through an interdisciplinary lens, drawing from a variety of study areas. As a budding ecologist, I am committed to working towards Reconciliation in the natural sciences and beyond.
Deliver tutorials for BI111 Biological Diversity and Evolution. Assist students with in-tutorial assignments and related course material.
Research assistant for the Hydrology and Limnology group at the Experimental Lakes Area in Ontario. Lake sampling tasks include using multi-parameter sondes to obtain temperature and oxygen profiles, collecting water for chemical analysis, and collecting zooplankton for later abundance and taxonomy counts. Other weekly tasks include monitoring of lake-level and out/in-flow stations, filtering zooplankton, and monitoring the meteorological site. Additionally, the HydroLim team performs trail clearing, weir/flume maintenance and repair, and other associated maintenance tasks.
Fourth-year thesis project analyzing data collected during NSERC Summer Undergraduate Research Assistant position, investigating the phenology of salamanders and their invertebrate prey.
Summer research project examining the community structure of macroinvertebrates associated with vernal pools that support numerous organisms, including important amphibian species. Research tasks include use of malaise traps, aquatic macroinvertebrate sampling, macroinvertebrate identification, and larval and metamorph amphibian surveys.
Research Project in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology (EEB397Y), focusing on the impacts of road salts on freshwater aquatic community composition and decomposition processes, primarily by aquatic amphipods. Research tasks include measuring specimens to gain physiological data, identification of macroinvertebrates, and data analysis using R Studio.
Work in a team to develop curriculum and learning resources for SLC sessions and peer mentor training. Provide ongoing support to a group of SLC peer mentors throughout the year.
Facilitate bi-weekly meetings and deliver curriculum for 32 second-year students with a co-peer mentor. Provide peer support and advice to second-year students in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology (EEB).
