Robin develops radar systems to detect small objects like birds and drones. This is relevant for bird strike prevention at military and civil airports, as well as in wind farms. As well as in security markets for early detection of small drones. Robin originated in the eighties within TNO Defense & Security. In the summer of 2010 it was spun-out to pursue market leadership as an independent company. In December 2012 two investment funds got on board: Inkef Capital (100% ABP) and the Mainport Innovation Fund comprising of KLM, Schiphol, TU Delft University and the Rabobank.

Several companies like Philips, Siemens, Ericsson and KPN have already experienced the advantages of an ‘open innovation partnership’ with Waleli to spot opportunities, and then bring products and services to market at maximum speed and minimum cost. Waleli was formed in 2002, and is headquartered in Amsterdam. Shell is a shareholder, along with venture capitalists and individuals like Roel Pieper. The company won several innovation awards and was identified by Red Herring ‘as one of the 100 Most Promising European Technology companies’ in 2006.
