Community Living Mississauga is a non-profit, charitable organization which provides support to people who have an intellectual disability. As a Service Coordinator, I empower individuals and families by coordinating tailored support services to help them achieve their goals. I connect them with vital community resources, promote independence, and foster self-determination.
Right to Play UTM is an official partner of Right to Play Canada, a global organization that protects, educates, and empowers children to rise above adversity using the power of play. As the Vice-President, I played a pivotal role in launching and establishing an official partnership with the global non-profit organization. Collaborating closely with the President, I oversaw the board of directors and spearheaded fundraising initiatives to support impactful campaigns. Working with the events, finance, and marketing teams, I advocated for children in marginalized communities, fundraising to promote a vision of a more equitable society.
Through training within this role, I developed the ability to independently perform stereotaxic injections and perfusion, essential techniques in neuroscience research. Working closely with mice subjects, I acquired in-depth knowledge of their intricacies and became proficient in handling them for various experimental procedures. I also gained valuable insights into the ethical considerations surrounding the proper care, handling, and euthanasia of mice, ensuring their welfare throughout the research process.
As a CLDP Assistant, I led and organized engaging workshops for over 50 participants, focusing on enhancing their leadership skills and personal development. Collaborating closely with supervisors and the Centre for Student Engagement stream leaders, I designed and delivered learning activities that fostered student participation and contributed to the overall goal of supporting students' growth and development. Through these workshops, I provided valuable insights and practical tools to help participants excel in their personal and professional lives. By creating an inclusive and dynamic learning environment, I played a pivotal role in empowering students to become effective leaders in their respective fields.
The Collegiate Leadership Competition (CLC) is a yearly leadership competition where participants from over 110+ post-secondary institutions compete in a series of challenges designed to enhance their leadership capabilities. As the mentor for the UTM Team, I collaborated with other mentors to plan and facilitate engaging practice sessions to provide student leaders with valuable insights into leadership qualities. I created a safe and inclusive space where participants from diverse backgrounds felt valued and heard. Guiding them based on the competition's goals, I helped students align their aspirations with the objectives of the competition.
In the advent of increased food waste and lack of food availability for people who are economically disadvantaged, global kitchen aspired to address these issues via fundraisers and raising awareness among UTM students and the local community. As a Research Associate for Global Kitchen, I researched food waste reduction, budgeting, and cultural food preparation. I provided valuable research content for the marketing team's outreach efforts. Furthermore, I explored ways to educate students on cultural food practices and enhance access to nutritious, affordable food options for disadvantaged students.
