  • Embedded Systems Engineer at Tolteq
    2006 - Oct 2010 · 4 yrs 10 mos

    - Designed and developed firmware for Tolteq’s GUIDE Surface System™’s electronics including Surface System Interface (SSI) cable – PIC18F4620 and PIC18F67J50 processors. Work involved USB, RS-232 and SPI communications. GUIDE Surface System provides live surface data including temperature, battery voltage, current consumption, shock and vibration, and flow. - Implemented 900 MHz radio communication with PIC18F67J50 processor – wireless data transfer at 3.2Mbps using Microhard n920T spread spectrum radio. - Developed firmware for the monitoring processor (PIC18F6722) in a system that is functionally equivalent to a string of MWD (Measurement While Drilling) tools. The system provides real-time downhole data during directional drilling. - Designed and developed MWD Tool Tracker™ application that interfaces with Tolteq’s complete suite of SMART® downhole electronics. Work included detailed processing of data and TX/RX with embedded tools using LabVIEW. Tool Tracker™ is designed to access and analyze logged tool history and environmental data to drastically improve Mean Time Between Failures of downhole MWD tools.
