Formerly known as The Factory and located at Grand Canal Dock, Bow Street is situated in Smithfield and is a space for actors to study, learn, experiment, and practice the art of acting for screen. The Programme for Screen Acting is Ireland’s only full time, year-long acting training resource dedicated specifically to screen acting. Like the Actors Studio in New York, the Programme entry is audition based with a view to creating the strongest group of actors possible. Previous instructors and guests at The Programme have included actors such as Tim Roth, Cillian Murphy, Danny DeVito, Stephen Tobolowsky, Saoirse Ronan, Ciaran Hinds, Richard Dreyfuss, Jack Reynor, and Stephen Rea and directors Jim Sheridan, Juanita Wilson, John Carney, Kirsten Sheridan, Lance Daly, Shimmy Marcus, Cathy Brady, Rebecca Daly, Ian Power, Damien O’Donnell, Dearbhla Walsh, Steph Green, Tom Hall and many more. Overseeing the Programme’s unique philosophy, technique, and method is Acting Coach, Voice Coach and Alexander Technique teacher Gerry Grennell whose clients have included Johnny Depp, Bruce Willis, Heath Ledger, Tom Cruise, Natalie Portman, Meryl Streep, Annie Hathaway, Kate Hudson, Ewan McGregor, Maggie Smith, Chris Hemsworth, Abbie Cornish, Oscar Isaac, Orlando Bloom, Marlon Brando, Sean Penn, Debra Winger, Fiona Shaw, Albert Finney, Michael Gambon, and Heather Graham. Other specialists included casting directors Maureen Hughes, Ros Hubbard, Leo Davis, and Carla Mercer, writer Pat McCabe, cinematographers Cathal Watters and Ruairi O’Brien, and editors Emer Reynolds and Tony Cranston. Sessions with experienced professionals, alongside regular film screenings, access to shooting and screening facilities, combine to form a comprehensive syllabus of study in all areas of performance for camera and development as a screen actor.
