Earlier in my career, I spent years working alongside leaders and teams who only realised their cyber risk when something went wrong—an incident, a near miss, or a decision made without the right information. I saw capable people overwhelmed by complexity, jargon, and fear‑driven advice, even though the problem itself was often solvable. That experience reshaped how I see security: not as a technical problem, but as a human one. I’m driven by a need to strip away the noise and give people clarity, confidence, and real control over their digital environment. Everything I do now is about building security that works with people, not against them.
The Joseph Banks Secondary College Board is a vital part of the College Community. The College Board acts to promote objectives and interests of the College Community. They aim to promote and monitor the strategic vision of the College. Scope & Leadership I lead a global cyber security team of up to 15 professionals across multiple time zones, supporting medium to large mining and resources clients with international operations. I oversee the end-to-end delivery of cyber security services, including incident response, threat management, and strategic advisory. Strategic Security Management - Developed and executed multi-client cyber security strategies aligned with business goals and risk profiles. - Engaged with stakeholders at all levels — including board and C-suite — to communicate risk, influence security posture, and drive decision-making. Governance, Risk & Compliance (GRC) Conducted comprehensive GRC assessments and ensured compliance with frameworks such as: - Essential 8 - SMB1001 - ISO 27001 - NIST Cyber Security Framework Delivered tailored risk mitigation plans and compliance roadmaps for each client. Vendor & Tooling Oversight Managed vendor relationships and negotiated contracts to maximize ROI on security tools and services. Ensured optimal configuration and utilisation of cyber security platforms across client environments. Team Development & Mentorship Championed a culture of continuous learning and professional growth within the team. Mentored junior and mid-level analysts, helping them progress into senior roles and certifications in cyber security. Key Achievements ✅ Successfully led the implementation of Essential 8 Maturity Level 2 controls for multiple clients — in some cases improving compliance from 0% to over 90% within 6 months. ⚙️ Spearheaded the automation of repetitive tasks within the cyber team, significantly increasing operational efficiency and boosting team morale. 📈 Consistently improved client security posture through strategic planning, stakeholder engagement, and proactive risk management.
