Reporting to the General Manager, performed the initial test work on a tailings dump in addition to evaluating the current plant’s performance and suggesting improvements. Responsibilities and Achievements: • Planning and carrying out a test work programme to evaluate various process options in order to recommend the best overall process to treat a tailings dump from a previous flotation plant • Conducting appropriate experimental work to characterise material from tailings dump. • Analysing day-to-day reagent consumption and plant efficiency, suggesting process improvements. • Detailed reporting of all findings and recommendations to the General Manager and Directors. • Successfully carried out test work programme and recommendations based on the test work formed the basis of the company’s feasibility study and development of the new process.
Reporting to the Manager- Plant Design, led a team of students investigating the mixing characteristics of a newly designed leaching tank and designing and building a scale model of the tank. Responsibilities and Achievements: • Ensuring compliance with safety and occupational policies during workshop activities. • Delegation of daily duties to group members. • Collection and analysis of data, interpretation of findings, and making recommendations on further investigation potential on behalf of the group to management. • Devised a simple and unconventional method to rate mixing performance which was adopted by the company when equipment for industry standard method was unavailable. • Successfully built a scale model of a mixing tank, used for testing and display purposes.
Reporting to the Manager- Plant Design, responsibilities included: • Initially rotated through general operations, including sourcing and purchasing of equipment for the workshop • Worked as part of a two member team in the collection and analysis of data and reporting of findings to management • Assisted with initial plant designs by working on process flow diagrams and mass balances • Tasked with solving general areas of concern such as building a bracing frame for a stirred tank
