Ruislip, England, United Kingdom
First Class Graduate from University College London currently in Santander's Risk & Compliance Graduate Programme and gaining experience across all key risk areas. In my first rotation, I supported the strategic implementation of the Data (Use and Access) Act 2025, contributing to a bank-wide regulatory change programme. My role involved engaging stakeholders across multiple business areas, identifying regulatory gaps, tracking remediation activity, and monitoring delivery against key milestones. Previously, I interned in Enterprise Risk where I gained exposure to the bank’s overall risk profile and management. I analysed and reported on risk metrics presented to the Board, supported the implementation of a new risk reporting system, and contributed to the annual risk appetite setting process, engaging with stakeholders across multiple business lines to help define and align risk appetite statements. These experiences have strengthened key transferable skills, particularly stakeholder management, structured problem-solving, communication, and the ability to operate effectively under pressure in a highly regulated environment. It has also given me exposure to how large financial institutions implement regulatory change, and coordinate delivery across multiple functions. I am now moving into Corporate Recoveries, where I will gain exposure to the management of distressed credit exposures and the full credit lifecycle once lending performance deteriorates. I am particularly looking forward to developing my financial analysis skills, strengthening my understanding of corporate credit risk, and engaging with complex commercial situations where judgement and stakeholder management are critical. Going forward, I am focused on building strong financial analysis, risk management, and stakeholder management skills, with the aim of applying them in investment and credit-focused roles within leading financial services institutions.
In my first rotation I have been placed in the Data Protection Advisory team within the wider Compliance Advisory function of the bank. In this role I have been supporting the bank’s response to the Data Use and Access Act (DUAA) 2025 by analysing regulatory change, conducting gap analyses, and helping embed controls to mitigate regulatory risk exposure across business lines. I have been producing stakeholder training and communications to translate complex regulation into actionable insight, while developing tracking tools to enhance oversight, strengthen auditability, and support the delivery of key risk and governance initiatives. I have also been contributing to the consolidation and redesign of customer-facing Data Protection Statements, introducing a standardised framework to improve operational efficiency, consistency, and ease of implementation.

In my rotation in Risk Appetite, I had the opportunity to analyse and report on risk metrics submitted to the board and assist with the implementation of a software for the reporting of our risk metrics. I was also involved in the annual process of setting risk appetite statements for the upcoming year which involved engaging with stakeholders across business lines.
