About

Named one of the leading artists of her generation, a Change maker by the Women's Press, and artist of the year; Sha Cage moves across artistic disciplines as an, actor, curator, writer, speaker, and poet. She moves fluidly between film and theater as a Director, Producer, and Performer and taught in over 100 schools locally and abroad. She consults with community partners in an effort to help organizations serve their diverse communities in equitable and responsible ways. She is a skilled producer for long term initiatives, a fierce featured artists / public speaker and a driven leader. She is the Lloyd Richards inaugural New Futures Fellow with Cornerstone Theater and recently joined the company's ensemble. Recent Directed works include (theater): 36Yesses (Cornerstone Theater Dec 2022), Dance Nation (Guthrie/BFA Conservatory Nov 2022), and upcoming Men On Boats (Pittsburgh Playhouse, Mar 2023). Film: Agent 13 (Black Star Studios), Yr Home Now (Freestyle Films), Underbelly Feature Documentary (TPT). Her work and activism has taken her across the U.S, to Germany, England, France, the Netherlands, Croatia, Mali, and Japan. Recent main-stage theater roles for her include Lady Capulet in the Guthrie Theater's 'Romeo and Juliet', Mama in Emmett Till at 'Penumbra Theater', Agnes in Mixed Blood Theater's Agnes Under the Big Top, Lizzy K in Park Square's 'Mary T & Lizzy K' and Ms. Sally in Penumbra Theater's 'Amen Corner'. She is a recipient of the distinguished McKnight Fellowship and Fox Fellowship. Her solo works continues to tour. She is founder of Catalyst Arts MN, a co-founder of Mama Mosaic Theater (for Women) and the MN Spoken Word Association, The Million Artist Movement, Tru Ruts and the MN Artist Coalition. She also works with The Guthrie Theater (Romeo & Juliet, King Lear), Frank Theater (F^cking A, Eclipsed, Venus), Ten Thousand Things, Pangea Theater, and Theater De La Jeune Leune and has been commissioned by the Women's Foundation of MN to create work about Human Trafficking. The past few years for Cage marked regional and national print and television commercials,  performance commissions, Twin Cities theater artist of the year mentions, international touring projects, and the female  voice in Target's 'Art Connects' national commercial campaign; launched on the B.E.T. awards. She can be seen regularly in television commercials such as Slumberland, AAA, and Hamburger Helper.
