Frontline Taos is an organization committed to fighting for the rights and ethical treatment of residents of Taos County, NM who were adversely affected by the Calf Canyon - Hermits Peak fire. This wildfire consumed 342,000 acres of national forestland and ancestral homesteads that date back 10 generations. We are deeply concerned about the fact that FEMA moved the declared disaster area line one day before the application period ended, which resulted in the exclusion of all claims from Taos County residents. We believe this was an unlawful and malicious act, and we intend to let the courts decide if there should be a criminal investigation conducted or not. We urge our neighboring communities to support us in our struggle, as many residents of Taos County have suffered greatly as a result of the wildfire. We do not intend to diminish the losses and compensation of others who were affected by the fire, and we hope for your support as we seek justice for our community. It is important to note that the fire did not respect political boundaries set by FEMA, and we do not either.
