Market Incentives Squads After successful 8 months in GetirBiTaksi, I started working with Incentives Squads which consists of 18-22 people. Here, I led engineers from 6 different competency areas: IOS (Swift), Android (Kotlin), Go, Node.js, React and Quality Assurance. I was also overseeing GetirBiTaksi Squad as well. Here we started breaking the monolith applications into microservices. We also embraced a polyglot approach for back-end languages, started using Go as well. Due to high level incident rates, we also focused on stability issues. While we were cleaning our tech debts, I created a focus group in the company with volunteered 60 people. We resolved a common technical problem for all company. At that point I became Interim Senior Engineering Manager in April 2023. After we made our systems a lot more robust, we implemented 'product discounts' project with many Squads in Market Tribe. We also implemented global panel migration, refer a friend, SAP integration, product exclusion projects. Incentives in Market Tribe was the most diverse squad ever in the company with a great balance in genders and cultures. We had engineers from many different locations such as Netherlands, Nigeria, Belarus, India, Germany and Turkey. Here I also hired Engineering Managers as well. At the end I was leading Incentives Squads with two great Engineering Managers as my direct reports. Gorillas Squads After finishing the most desired feature of Incentives Squad, I started working with Gorillas Squads which consists of 10-12 people. Here I could only spent 1 month. I became Senior Engineering Manager at my last weeks. However I decided to make a shift in my career. In Getir, I led many projects, teams, I mentored many engineers and managers from different cultures. I reached approximately 40 people size in the squads I led. It was the most exciting ride of my entire career with many ups and downs. I had a unique experience I couldn't even imagine. Thanks to all getirians.

    • Engineering Manager - GetirBiTaksi Squad
      Mar 2022 - Dec 2022 · 10 mos

My Getir journey started with GetirBiTaksi Squad which consists of 8 people. Here, I led engineers from 4 different competency areas: IOS (Swift), Android (Kotlin), Go and Quality Assurance. First, I improved the processes by teaching Scrum practices, then we changed the team language from Turkish to English in line with our 'global tech company' vision. On the monitoring side, we prepared Newrelic and Cloudwatch Dashboards. We integrated sonarcloud for code quality and created a tech debt backlog. We made our entire application architecture visible using C4 models. Together, we have implemented long-requested product features in a short amount of time, such as taximeter-on, pay with tip, campaigns, back-to-back trips, tab navigator, checkout process change. In addition, we made our resource usage more efficient and made cost cuts of up to 80% in total on AWS, Kubernates and Mongo. We implemented DORA metrics to see our improvement areas. I also trained a senior engineer as a manager in GetirBiTaksi Squad. We were one of the teams with the lowest turnover rate.
