About

Sebastian pursuing a PhD in range science at Utah State University. He is being dual advised by Dr. Eric Thacker and Dr. Juan Villalba within the Smart Foodscapes project studying how islands of plant diversity can improve the productivity and sustainability of livestock operations on rangelands with diminished plant diversity. His past research focused on the effects of plant secondary compounds on animal health and diet selection. His current research continues that theme with additional aspects involving landscape-scale grazing patterns, behavioral dimensions of virtual fencing, and the effects of plant secondary compounds on animal meat quality and epigenetic health indicators. All these aspects inform the future of sustainable range-based food production systems.
