Identifying botrytis resistance loci in wild European grapevines. Screening the library of wild and commercial grapevine varieties at the KIT botanical garden for botrytis susceptibility using a detached-leaf assay. Quantification of infection spread via NightSHADE imaging system. Plan: Perform a GWAS study based on this dataset to identify resistance loci, courtesy of the genomes available in the GrapeKIT database.
CTAB gDNA extraction from wood samples, as part of a study on the spread of grapevine trunk disease in grapevine stems. Also, work on the interactions of cold box factors and cold-induced nuclear-localized kinesins: cloning and gene expression analysis.
Continuation of the KliWiReSSE-associated projects: Gene expression analysis of the leaf disc samples gathered via real-time qPCR. Further gDNA extraction and sequencing coordination.
Miscellaneous work within the KliWiReSSE project. gDNA extraction from grapevine leaves, as part of a sequencing campaign for the GrapeKIT grapevine genome database. Experimental design and running of a heat stress experiment in grapevine leaf discs. Goal: Gene expression analysis of heat shock proteins as a proxy for heat tolerance in grapevines.
Teaching assistant for the botanical "Nutzpflanzenpraktikum". Assisting students with microscopy and sample preparation, as well as grading sketches.
