In the Marsh & McLennan Innovation Centre (MMCIC), I worked as part of the CAT Risk StudioTM team of Guy Carpenter to benchmark catastrophe models used in (re)insurance risk assessment. We tested the models for parameter sensitivity, suitability to historical loss data and agreement with academic research. My role as part of the two man software team was to turn these tests/procedures into user-friendly web applications which would deliver easy to configure, consistently formatted, printable and intuitive test results. The resulting reports were used internally and in client meetings to inform catastrophe model suitability for individual portfolios. Our small software team was also responsible for integrating new features re- quested by our colleagues as well as promoting the web apps to the wider colleague community. Software: • Backend - Webserver written in Go, PostgresSQL database • Frontend - ReactJS, d3.js, jQuery • Application management - systemd, HAproxy • Productivity/Source Control - Git, Atlassian Jira & Bitbucket
I worked as part of a team to analyse the effect of changes on a synthetic European electricity grid to inform market decisions and future grid investment from the Austrian perspective. My main responsibility was to develop a GUI in MATLAB that allowed interaction with and visualisation of the model. This GUI allowed users to easily edit existing network properties such as electricity generation, transmission constraints and demand as well as allowing users to create new power plants, transmission lines and demand centres. • Software - MATLAB, Excel, GAMS • Improved German language skills in a working environment
