About

Most founders hire a VP of Sales 12 months too early. They raise a round. A board member tells them to "get a real sales leader in here." They post the job, hire someone with a logo on their resume, and a year later they're back to square one with $400K burned and a sales team that's been demoralized twice. I've watched it happen 100 times. I've also been the guy who got hired into that role. Six times. At companies like Qualia and Main Street Hub. I helped scale them from no revenue to real revenue, and contributed to 12 unicorn valuations and 15 exits along the way. Here's what I learned doing it: The founder is the best salesperson the company will ever have. Nobody can sell the product better than the person who built it. The job isn't to hand off sales. The job is to become great at founder-led sales first, then build the engine that scales past you without breaking. That's what I do now. I work with founders between Seed and Series B who want to scale revenue without losing control of the motion. SaaS, fintech, vertical software. We figure out: β†’ How to sell it yourself, on purpose, with a system β†’ When you're actually ready to hire (hint: it's later than you think) β†’ Who to hire, in what order, and how to compensate them β†’ The messaging, process, and rigor that makes the engine repeatable β†’ How to coach the team you build without becoming the bottleneck I'm not a fractional CRO. I'm not running your team. I'm the person you call when you're about to make an expensive mistake and need someone who's made it already to talk you out of it. The numbers, if they matter to you: β†’ 200 founders advised β†’ 12 unicorn valuations contributed to β†’ 15 exits participated in β†’ 100% inbound for 6.5 years and running When I'm not doing that, I'm: β†’ Running Surf & Sales, an experiential retreat in Costa Rica for founders and sales leaders β†’ Building JanJon.ai, helping companies actually implement AI in their sales motion β†’ Advising the team at GoodDog on a canine-enabled emergency response system that's changed the personal safety category β†’ Hosting podcasts, writing books (3 so far, 2 bestsellers), and refereeing youth and college soccer because life isn't only about work Based in Austin. Surfer. Father. Operator. If you're a founder trying to figure out what comes next in your sales motion, my DMs are open.
