I care deeply about what I do and set out to have as positive an impact as I am able. To this end, I have spent the last decade extending the horizons of sustainability in the built environment through architectural and prefigurative practice, activism, cross-sectoral cultural programming and educational works, whilst amassing a growing body of published writing. My expertise spans architectural design, circularity and materials stewardship, community and public education, cultural production, embodied carbon analysis and reduction, regenerative design and resource strategies, sustainability coordination and synergy mapping. Beyond traditional architecture, I have successfully built cases for 1st of their kind roles and delivered change management at the forefront and regularly beyond the curve of sustainability in the construction sector. My track record demonstrates the depth of my care and passion for realising a Just Transition within, for and beyond construction: -In the last 5 years alone, I have raised the sustainability bar and horizons across more than 40 projects - coordinating impacts across first-of-their-kind housing pilots, Passivhaus schools and medical facilities to developing sustainability strategies for university campuses and assessing Whole Life Carbon impacts for several non-domestic retrofit plans simultaneously. -I have contributed to well over 150 public events - from workshop sessions at Scottish community halls and co-creating festivals spanning the U.K. to giving keynotes at European Sustainable Energy Week policy debates in Brussels. - I have been interviewed and edited issues for, and had writing published in a variety of industry journals, from the Architects Journal to Dezeen and more, and had my writing published in several books - most recently 'The Pedagogies of Reuse: The International School of Re-Construction' co-edited by Duncan Baker-Brown and Graeme Brooker, published by Routledge. -I have taught cohorts about climate literacies and reimagining the built environment as a space for climate action at 24 different institutions of higher education across the UK, mainland Europe and Turtle Island. -Through a past self-sustained project - the Anthropocene Architecture School, I created spaces for almost 8000 people to learn together and reimagine the possibilities for climate action in the sector between 2019 and 2025.
Deploying regenerative design, sustainability coordination, workshop facilitation and research expertise to projects across Scotland’s Highlands, Islands and Central Belt in a consultancy capacity. From a first of its kind housing pilot to regenerative and circular materials stewardship and strategy for an intergenerational family home.
I joined the Architecture Fringe team as a Co-Producer in early 2021 ahead of the commencement of AF21: (Un)Learning, applying and sharing my wealth of experience in grassroots climate spaces and expertise in educating for the climate emergency, as if it is an actual emergency. In 2021, I led on producing Towards COP26 - a provocation-powered world-cafe discussion on the intersectional reality of the climate crisis and the transformative action required to tackle it, and co-hosted the session involving Decolonise Architecture, the New European Bauhaus, After the Pandemic and ENOUGH! In 2023, I stewarded Radical Spaces and Autonomous Actions on the Core Programme - a celebration of Glasgow's community-led action to create and safeguard its civic infrastructure and community spaces, and research project involving students from Glasgow School of Art, that concluded with a community meal at Civic House bookending either side of a panel discussion . In 2025, after involvement across the wider 'Reciprocity: Architectures of Exchange' programme - 2 weeks of activities across Scotland and beyond, I took the lead on Environmental Reporting and began developing the platform's relationships with other cultural organisations beyond the architectural to share stories of the architecturally achievable and ecologically possible to aid wider decarbonisation of the cultural sector.
Whilst simultaneously working on projects, business development, in-house upskilling and frequently showcasing the company's work at conferences and public events across the U.K., I successfully built the case for and challenged Architype to create and resource this bespoke regenerative strategy role to increase my impact. I purposefully designed its remit to amplify my strengths and strategically allocated resource allowed for greater agility to impactfully and malleably work across, between and beyond the studio's projects - identifying and weaving together emergent opportunities and synergies beyond traditional architecture scopes. In this time: -I worked on the embodied carbon component of the first EnerPhit informed Retrofit Plan in Wales, generating 25 scenarios across 4 differently-built blocks to guide and inform the local authority client whilst diagramming, illustrating and co-writing report material. -Was shortlisted for 2024's Built Environment - Smarter Transformation's Accelerate to Zero Hero award, recognising my ongoing and outstanding contributions to the decarbonisation of Scotland's built environment and construction sector. -Developed circular economic and regenerative materials strategies for agricultural college campuses. -Carried out Upfront, Embodied and Whole Life Carbon Assessments of, and was the studios' point of carbon analysis expertise across its building projects inc. archives, educational spaces, healthcare facilities, leisure centres, and secondary schools - including an as-built WLC study of Riverside Primary School, Scotland's 1st PH Primary School. Whilst at Architype I brought regenerative design and sustainability expertise to more than 40 projects, encouraging clients and design teams to extend the horizon of sustainability on each. Beyond buildings, I catalysed 10 events supporting local and national climate actions and industry efforts that engaged hundreds of people, hosting and speaking at 9 of them.
Upon joining Architype, I immediately led the development of the company’s first 5-Year Climate Action Roadmap and championed Regenerative Design across the practice whilst honing and deploying an expertise in life cycle analysis - working predominantly on schools across Scotland as part of EnerPhit Informed Retrofit Plans. Alongside embodied carbon reporting and developing tools to visualise climate literacy across three studios, I worked in a sustainability coordination role - deploying extensive knowledge of, and practical experience with, low carbon materials, circular economy strategies, and developed industry-leading sustainability briefs, and goals for the studio’s projects. During this time: -I provided circular economy, ecological and low carbon material specialisms to a number of projects - going beyond carbon and expanding upon briefs to inform clients of the medical benefits and psychological effects of spending time in spaces built from natural building materials. -Gave keynote addresses at "Architecture for a Just Transition" - the Architects Council of Europe's policy debate during European Sustainable Energy Week 2023 in Brussels and the inaugural BE-ST Fest at what was formerly the Construction Scotland Innovation Centre in 2022. -I set the initial industry-leading sustainability targets for, and then developed a layered and regenerative materials strategy for the Royal Agricultural University's impending Innovation Village. -Provided carbon expertise to clients and Architype's design teams, carrying out carbon assessments for EnerPHit informed Retrofit Plans for local authorities across Scotland and healthcare facilities in England - benchmarking against the NHS Net Zero Carbon Building Standard. -Carried out research determining the viability of a Net Positive Development in Dublin - delving into an extensive and multi-faceted sustainability criteria for our client. -
For 6 years I stewarded the internationally renowned Anthropocene Architecture School - a prefigurative architectural education and un/learning project that fused Climate Literacy with Agency, Entanglement, Spatial Justice and the Radical Imagination. Taking its name from the Anthropocene concept, I launched the school in response to architecture's shocking non-response to the IPCC's Special Report on 1.5 Degrees in 2018 and the ongoing day-to-day cognitive dissonance and inertia that we are still seeing in industry and policy spaces. In this self-sustained and freelance role: -I directly engaged almost 8000 people by contributing to >120 public events and teaching cohorts at 22 institutions of higher education internationally across Scotland, England, Ireland, Wales, mainland Europe and Turtle Island. Extensive appearances on podcasts, published writing in national journals, festival programmes and featuring in films further enhanced and multiplied this impact. -Was an opening speaker at the 2019 RIAS' Convention in Edinburgh - where I set a Climate Emergency tone and was recognised as one of the RIBA Journal's Rising Stars in 2020. -I marked my 100th lecture at the Sustainable Landing Hub in my home city of Glasgow during COP26. -I gave the opening keynote on Disruption at the inaugural BE-ST Fest at what was once the Construction Scotland Innovation Centre in 2022, undertook an Architecture is Climate residency in 2023 - that resulted in 2 days of back-to-back programming around a theme of Unlearning Powerlessness - at Central St. Martins and was a co-creator of 2023's Retrofit Reimagined festival season across the U.K. - giving keynotes and hosting panel discussions at the Building Centre, the Centre of Alternative Technology and Civic House. -I gave one of the opening provocations for Scotland's 1st Just Transition exercise for the construction sector, SEDA's Big Conversation, in 2024 and ended the project with an inimitable Housing Justice Carnival in 2025.
