Belfast Metropolitan Area
I graduated from Queen's University Belfast with a First Class Honours BSc in Computer Science. For my dissertation, I developed a highly successful web application using Java and React to detect and log self-admitted security debt—a novel research area. This involved building, training, and tuning an NLP model on Google Cloud Platform to analyse source code retrieved via the GitHub API. As part of my degree, I undertook a one-year internship at Oracle, where I was recognised for having “naturally taken on the role of leader and co-ordinator with the interns.” During this placement, I honed my skills in Java and gained hands-on experience with a range of technologies, including Jenkins, Kubernetes, React (JavaScript), Selenium, and microservices architecture. Beyond my technical experience, I have actively led and co-ordinated various events, including successful charity fundraising initiatives, showcasing strong organisational and leadership skills.
Implemented, and helped manage, an intern-driven project which saved the development organisation days of man-hours each week. I worked mainly as a backend developer, working in Java & the Helidon MicroProfile framework to deliver a highly functional and contemporary microservice, containerised with Docker and orchestrated through Kubernetes. I also undertook some React.js development duties in order to further my understanding of frontend development.
Working as part of patrol teams, accommodating customers with individual requirements, often children and people with disabilities. I was also tasked with ensuring I had a knowledge of emergency procedures from fires to missing individuals.
