I spent three weeks working as a research assistant for the Paleoprimate Project in Gorongosa Mozambique, lead by Prof. Suzannah Carvello. This involved collaboration with academics from the Universiade Eduardo Mondlane, requiring wider teamwork despite language barriers.
During my internship at Future Planet Capital, I was given the responsibility to report on potential high-growth opportunities that the company had proposed for investment. I assessed these opportunities by calculating cost, scalability, and output scores, involving the extrapolation and analysis of data from government sources using Excel. Further, I produced an investment thesis which I then presented to the wider company.
My time at FAIRR was divided into three roles: Policy, ESG analysis and Management. Under the policy team, I used biosocial knowledge to formulate solutions to inefficient agricultural policy. This was achieved in collaboration with leading academics and investor networks, resulting in the publication of the Policy Report "Just Transition in Animal Agriculture: Implications, Risks and Opportunities", where I am cited as a co-author. Under the ESG analysis team, I was responsible for researching ESG risks in aquaculture with the aim of highlighting full-chain traceability and unlocking opportunities in global seafood supply chains. This was reflected in the FAIRR 2022 Oceans and Biodiversity Impact Report for investors, which aimed to encourage the world’s largest salmon companies to develop a strategic, science-based approach to diversifying feed ingredient sources. Under the management team, I developed project management skills through training in RAID and Benefit Management. My internship at FAIRR also developed my presentation skills, addressing the company both in data heavy handover capacities and in a summarised analyst format.
