Cork Chamber is the number one regional lobbying group in Ireland. Representing the interests of over 1,200 member companies, the Chamber seeks to grow networks, facilitate collaborations; and drive regional growth and competitiveness. As Senior Public Affairs Executive, my key responsibilities included stakeholder collaboration, strategic communications, thought leadership, and driving policy change. Specifically, I was accountable for developing and implementing the Chamber’s policy and public affairs portfolio; executing lobbying campaigns and delivering key messages to transform Cork into a better place to live, work and invest.
• Acting as public spokesperson for Chambers Ireland’s policy positions, including live interviews • Overseeing Chambers Ireland’s Twitter and social media activities, achieving trending status for the first time • Writing press releases related to Budget 2016 and Chambers Ireland’s policy priorities and coordinating with media to ensure positive coverage. • Drafting op-eds for national broadsheet media • Monitoring the press and media coverage of Chambers Ireland and working to increase same • Writing monthly newsletters to members of the Chamber Network
• Lobbying central government and key national stakeholders on Chambers Ireland’s policy objectives • Preparing evidence-based reports advocating policy positions, including Chambers Ireland’s Pre-Budget Submission • Researching and publishing policy documents, including a review of childcare cost in Ireland and an assessment of the effectiveness of Local Economic Development initiatives throughout the country • Researching new regulative, legislative and political developments affecting businesses • Externally representing CI on national advisory boards • Preparing consultation response papers, network surveys, and information papers • Coordinating policy council meetings and providing secretarial support to these • Relationship building with local Chambers, partners, stakeholders and patrons • Planning and research for CI’s annual CSR Award with 550+ attendees • Researching and writing policy articles for the InBusiness magazine
