Sara Swaty is a documentary and portrait photographer based in Los Angeles. With a BFA in Photography from Rochester Institute of Technology and a minor in Cultural Anthropology, her practice examines identity, gender, and ableism through long-form visual storytelling. In 2025, Swaty was awarded the Magnum Foundation x Mother Jones Health Grant to fund her project, "The Body Wasn't the Problem." Her work been featured on Reuters, CNN, the World Photography Organization, and The Advocate. These self directed projects have exhibited internationally, including a solo show sponsored by the Lucie Foundation and a group exhibition in Dresden, Germany, where she received 3rd place in the Hellerau Photography Award. She was awarded the Reuters Mentorship Award at the Eddie Adams Workshop, and her work is held in the permanent collection at the Leslie-Lohman Museum of Art. Rooted in her own experience, her current work investigates the intersection of healthcare equity and bodily autonomy.
