In 2014, I suffered several strokes from a terminal rare blood cancer-polycythemia vera w/ GI AV malformations (aneurysms). The resulting symptoms/strokes have Terminally/Permanently disabled my physical being, not my limited spirit. Years of physicians ignoring symptom complaints Exacerbated present Conditions. Kentucky Colonel is the highest title of honor bestowed by the Commonwealth of Kentucky. Commissions for Kentucky colonels are given by the governor and the secretary of state to individuals in recognition of noteworthy accomplishments and outstanding service to a community, state or the nation. The Governor of Kentucky bestows the honor of a colonel's commission, by issuance of letters patent. The Statewide Independent Living Council is a systems advocacy and planning organization. We work for systemic change in the areas that are the biggest barriers to people with disabilities participating fully in their communities. In our current 3-year plan, the areas we are focused on are: Accessible Housing Assistive Technology Transportation Governor Brian Kemp of Georgia Appoints Dr. Samuel Verniero, Jr. whom has previously served as a Kentucky Colonel, Arkansas Traveler and Ambassador, United Nations World Humanity Commission Deputy High Commissioner-Ambassador, member of the DeKalb County Community Service Board, member of the Selective Service System Appellate Judicial Board, and member of the Department of Behavioral Health Advisory Council to The Statewide Independent Living Council of Georgia, Inc. (SILC) which is a private, non-profit corporation governed by people with all types of disabilities from all across Georgia. SILC identifies societal barriers to independent living and collaborates with Centers for Independent Living, Rehabilitation Services, and related entities to remove those barriers and increase the support and services needed to create independent living opportunities.

We collaborate with the Georgia Vocational Rehabilitation Agency in planning and providing comprehensive and effective services that assist individuals with disabilities to achieve their employment goals and contribute to Georgiaâs economy. To be a strategic partner with the Georgia Vocational Rehabilitation Agency to make Georgia the best state for people with disabilities to live, work and thrive. We believe individuals with disabilities should have equal opportunity for employment and participation in their communities.  June 6, 2019 Atlanta, GA - This morning, Governor Brian P. In 2020, Incyte Corp. and Cure Media Group named Samuel a 2020 MPN Hero for his advocacy on behalf of those living with Myeloproliferative Neoplasms (MPN). A tireless advocate, Samuel has also served on the DeKalb Community Service Board and the Department of Behavioral Health Advisory Council. On Capitol Hill, Georgians honored Samuelâs advocacy through two separate Georgia Senate resolutions in 2020 and in 2023. Similarly, he was honored by the Georgia House of Representatives through two separate resolutions in 2020 and in 2021. In 2019, Gov. Brian Kemp named Samuel an Honorary Lt. Colonel Aide De Camp, along with other commendations.
