Experienced and versatile Senior Nuclear Engineering and Operations Manager in the build, operations and maintenance of Nuclear PWR reactors and Marine engineering systems. Multi disciplined in mechanical, electrical, commissioning and engineering assurance roles. Adaptable, motivated, and with extensive knowledge of Nuclear Engineering/Project Management with a proven track record of delivering complex challenges on time and within resource tolerances. An articulate communicator and motivating leader with a positive attitude to overcoming rising challenges. Effective at developing positive working relationships and building strong, confident and knowledgeable teams. As an arbiter of engineering standards I am experienced in integrating into departments at short notice, identify weak areas and subsequently introducing policy and procedural changes which have increased both standards and efficiencies. As a passionate ambassador for continual personal development I have refined my coaching and mentoring skills to develop individuals through challenging and demanding nuclear training regimes; enabling trainees to go on to become excellent nuclear engineers in their own right. As a calm and controlled individual I am experienced in negotiating with stakeholders and uniting the parties involved to identify common goals and subsequently drive the programme to a successful completion.
Thermal Performance Specialist working within the Operations Support team on a variety of commissioning issues and preparations for Power Ascension Testing
• As the Commissioned Officer responsible for plant management I ensured continued operation through timely engineering decisions and command of the maintenance and operation teams. • As part of the Senior Engineering Management team I was selected to grow and develop a new Nuclear Engineering and Maintenance Department. I delivered a motivated and capable team of engineers (50-60 in number) who are now conducting nuclear system operations on a daily basis, ensuring compliance with all operating legislation. Moreover, I developed the required documentation suite to meet all Nuclear Regulator Audit requirements. • As system Handover Officer, I managed the handover of new build engineering systems from prime contractor to end-user, ensuring the systems were at the required level of maturity, maintenance and operability. • Managed preparations for initial criticality of a new build PWR reactor; conducted pre-initial criticality testing, including Primary circuit strength tests, cold and hot functional testing. • Responsible for ensuring safe operation of the nuclear plant and support systems; managed a team of operators to conduct numerous reactor start-ups / shut-downs and extensive periods of critical PWR operations as the SRO and Shift Manager. • Working as part of the change management team I was involved in the full life cycle of engineering design changes; acting as the SME on the design change review board and subsequently as board signing member accepting design changes. • Reactor Test Group: routinely been the authorising member in the decision-making process for the commissioning of PWR reactors and reactor support systems, authorising continued use and ensuring compliance with operating licence. • Senior Officer In Charge of Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) issues; responsible for all work conducted on the facility, vetting and authorising safe systems of work, identifying unsafe working practices and taking the necessary remedial action.
Responsible for coordinating stakeholders to deliver maintenance and engineering work packages on time and in a safe manner. Conducted duties as both the Commissioned officer in charge of the submarine and as the lead engineer responsible for the safety and security of the unit and personnel. Due to reduced time scales being available for delivery of the maintenance package I was able to identify, prioritise and advise on safety critical items and ensure concessions were in place for the items that could not be conducted. I held overall responsibility for ensuring all safe systems of work were adhered too by both internal and external contractors.
Member of the management team responsible for ensuring HMS Vengeance was delivered to the main contractor ready for a £350M refit package. One of the lead engineering managers for the Primary Circuit Decontamination process on used reactor core. Authorising member of the Reactor refuel test group, authorising work packages to be undertaken on-board the submarine. Coordinating the handover of engineering systems to main contractor in a safe and catalogued state. Liaised with main contractor to identify opportunities to conduct trails at sea accessing the condition of the engineering plant in an effort to tailor and target the refit package increasing efficiencies and reducing the timelines.
• Senior technician: responsible for organising work packages, completing maintenance and conducting defect rectification whilst managing a team of five additional technicians. • Faced with a number of intense maintenance periods, work packages were always completed on time and within resource constraints, allowing the continued availability of engineering systems. Largely due to personal ability to highlight issues early and work with colleagues to find alternative methods to achieve the aim.
