I’m Samantha (Sam) D’Amico, an HR Advisor at Medina McKelvey, a full-service California employment law firm. I work with our clients to provide HR recommendations that strengthen compliance and culture through policies, practices, coaching, training, and certification. ☛ Why I Do What I Do The first two decades of my career were spent in a startup environment. I joined a regional staffing agency as its second full-time employee and secured a large client in my first year. As the company grew to a nationwide agency, I built out the client services, human resources, business development, and finance departments as the Director of Operations. Being involved in a California class action and PAGA lawsuit at my previous job opened my eyes to the challenges California employers face. My HR experience includes managing a nationwide workforce of field employees and advising under the direction of attorneys on complex wage and hour issues, particularly those in California. I hold the PHRca certification from HRCI. California employment law is constantly evolving—a commitment to ongoing learning is essential! ☛ My Background and Outlook Having a diverse business operations background allows me to understand the needs and challenges of various organizational departments, including accounting, payroll, HR, and executive leadership. I see compliance issues through a lens that considers financial, cultural, and operational impacts. When I’m not working remotely from my home in Massachusetts (and representing the entire East Coast to my California colleagues!), I can be found with my husband, daughter, and three dogs at our log home in the woods. ☛ I would love to connect with other HR professionals or anyone looking to help navigate compliance with California employment law.
