I believe every successful client relationship begins with attentive listening. My design philosophy is rooted in understanding the culture and place unique to every project. Listening is the catalyst for understanding, exploration and discovery. Understanding the clients' message leads to the gem in every project. The integration of daylight, nature and art are core to my design tenets. I couple these with an integrated design approach to insure a holistic design response. I leverage more than 30 years of healthcare design experience, which has become my passion. Although the majority of my career has focused on healthcare, I have also designed many other building types, which gives me a unique advantage and perspective when I approach Healthcare Design. Place making that heals and enhances the patient experience are my ultimate goal. I joined SmithGroup in 2011 from Anshen + Allen, where I served as senior project designer for significant projects. These included the UCSF Children's, Women's and Cancer Hospital at Mission Bay, where I led design of an integrated project delivery team. During my tenure at HOK, I designed the Center for Advanced Medicine for BJC HealthCare in St. Louis, Missouri as well as the Alaska Psychiatric Institute in Anchorage, a winning design-build competition. Since joining SmithGroup, I have led the design for the Robley Rex VA Medical Center, Gansu Provincial Maternity and Children Medical Complex as well two recently completed Cancer Centers which include the Adventist Health Sonora Outpatient Pavilion and the Clovis Community Cancer Institute. My work has been honored by SFAIA, AIA/AAH Healthcare Design Awards, Modern Healthcare/AIA Academy of Architecture for Health and HEALTHCARE DESIGN.
