I am a designated Senior Advocate practising primarily before the High Court of Delhi, the Supreme Court of India and the NCLAT. With bachelor's degrees in mechanical engineering from Anna University (2002-06) and law from IIT Kharagpur (2006-09), I began my career as a civil commercial litigator in July 2009 with the NCR-based firm Saikrishna & Associates, and was made Associate Partner in March 2015. In June 2016, I founded Law Chambers of J. Sai Deepak and set up independent practice as a counsel. On November 29, 2024, at the age of 39, I was designated as a Senior Advocate by the Hon’ble High Court of Delhi. I am engaged by law firms and solicitors to represent parties primarily before the Delhi High Court, the Supreme Court of India, the NCLAT, the NCLTs and the CCI. I appear before the Karnataka, Calcutta, Madras and Kerala High Courts as well. My core areas of practice are civil commercial litigation, in particular IP litigation, matters relating to the Companies Act, insolvency, competition law, arbitration, securities law and constitutional law. Thanks to the opportunities that have come my way over the last sixteen years, I have contributed to landmark judgements in each of these areas. Since 2016, I have been the Special Counsel for the State Govt of Madhya Pradesh in the ongoing dispute seeking inclusion of MP as part of the Basmati Geographical Indication.Since August 2023,I have been engaged by SEBI as its arguing counsel for matters before the Supreme Court, High Courts, NCLTs and NCLAT. In 2019, I was awarded the Young Alumni Achiever’s Award by my alma mater IIT Kharagpur. I have authored two bestselling and award-winning non-fiction books published by Bloomsbury, namely India that is Bharat: Coloniality, Civilisation, Constitution (2021) and India, Bharat and Pakistan: The Constitutional Journey of a Sandwiched Civilisation (2022).
I have been engaged by CIPAM (Cell for Intellectual Property Rights Promotion and Management), DIPP, on an honorary basis to advise it on the implementation of the National IPR Policy.
I am the Special Counsel for the State Government of Madhya Pradesh in the ongoing Basmati GI litigation before the Madras High Court,Delhi High Court, the Geographical Indications Registry, and the Supreme Court of India.
