Sagar Soni is a distinguished Chemical Engineering graduate from the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Warangal (2014–2018 batch). He further enhanced his academic and professional foundation with a Post Graduate Diploma in Environmental Law from National Law University, Delhi, and an Executive Degree from IIM Mumbai, reflecting a strong blend of technical, managerial, and regulatory expertise. He began his professional journey with Hindalco Industries Limited in 2018 as part of the prestigious Star GET batch. Over the years, he has built more than eight years of rich experience across the aluminium and copper sectors, contributing to several high-impact sustainability and operational initiatives. During his tenure at Birla Copper, Bharuch one of India’s largest custom copper smelters. Sagar held multiple critical leadership roles. He served as Site Manager and Section Head for the Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) project, led operations for Reverse Osmosis (RO) and Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) utilities, and managed the Copper Smelter off-gas scrubber project with a focus on emissions control and environmental compliance. As Deputy Sustainability Lead for Hindalco’s Copper Cluster, he spearheaded several pioneering initiatives, including India’s first E-scrap recycling project and the Inner Grooved Tube project, while also leading water task forces and innovation projects across Hindalco’s operations. In recognition of his contributions, Sagar was awarded the “Outstanding Project Executor” in the Water Innovation category by the Aditya Birla Group Innovation Team in 2023. He was also nominated for the prestigious Chairman’s Award under the “Young Emerging Professionals” category in 2025. Currently based at Mumbai Head Office, He serves as Lead Environment & Sustainability for Aluminium Downstream operations. In this role, he drives environmental strategy, compliance, and performance improvement across businesses, while also leading PAN-Hindalco Product Sustainability and Stewardship. His work focuses on advancing key areas such as Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), Product Carbon Footprint (PCF), Environmental Product Declarations (EPD), and alignment with global sustainability frameworks. With strong expertise in sustainability, water management, emissions control, circular economy initiatives, and project management supported by his proficiency in tools like Primavera P6, LCA FE Gami software, Pinch Analysis tool. Sagar continues to play a pivotal role in advancing Hindalco’s sustainability agenda and enabling responsible, future-ready manufacturing.
Under MCOE sustainability role I will be looking after environment compliance, driving water positivity projects & Zero waste to landfill certification for downstream units. Compliance and tracking of major ZLD water related projects. R&D and innovation project for reducing fresh water & fuel consumption. Environment product declaration (EPD), LCA (Life cycle assessment) and PCF (Product Carbon Footprint) for downstream products.
Under MCOE sustainability role I will be looking after Water accounting, KPI, Enablon for PAN Hindalco and charter for Hindalco mines division. Driving water positivity projects & water taskforce for mines and all units across country. Compliance and tracking of major ZLD water related projects. R&D for water innovation project for reducing fresh water consumption. Hindalco's COPPER cluster units covering Birla Copper Dahej, Asoj and upcoming major projects like Country’s first E Scrap recycling and inner grooved tube projects.
