  • Artists for Balkan Rivers/Save the Blue Heart of Europe at RiverWatch
    Mar 2020 - Dec 2022 · 2 yrs 10 mos

Pristine streams and rivers, untouched nature and thriving biodiversity: there are not many regions left in Europe like the "Blue Heart" in the Balkans. For example, did you know that the Vjosa river in Albania is the last wild river in the continent? There are now 3,431 hydropower plants projected to be built along these rivers, some in national parks and protected areas. These plants and their dams are destroying ecosystems and are causing irreversible damage to wildlife and people alike. For years now, the NGOs @euronatur and Riverwatch have been successfully campaigning for the protection of the Balkan rivers. With their Save the Blue Heart of Europe campaign their mission is clear: damming must be regulated and the valuable ecosystems must be protected. Their main goals are: "- to raise public awareness about Balkan Rivers, their ecological values and vulnerability - to stop dam projects in the 4 key areas - to coordinate the development of a masterplan with no-go areas for dam construction for all Balkan rivers - to improve knowledge about the biodiversity of those rivers playing a crucial role in terms of biological connectivity and endemism in the region." - from their campaign page https://lnkd.in/dzFpVUUB We proudly announce that we are now involved in this campaign. Ulrich Eichelmann from Riverwatch is going to use our river basin maps in his presentations all over the world, and we are now working together on different visualizations for individual river basins that will help reach their goals with the river Neretva. After their success with the Vjosa, we are very hopeful! -> #vjosanationalparknow This picture was taken on the Freedom for the Rivers press conference at @centar-za-životnu-sredinu-center-for-environment , where Ulrich Eichelmann handed out our maps as thank you gifts for musician Darko Rundek and the band Partibrejkers. Picture shows Ulrich Eichelmann, Darko Rundek, Sabina Sabic, and Cane from Partibrejkers.

  • Creative Ecologies | KRAK at KRAK - Centre for Contemporary Culture
    Nov 2022 - Nov 2022 · 1 mo

KRAK Center for Contemporary Culture (Hamze Hume Street, Bihać) Irfan Hošić in conversation with Alban Muja, Jonathan Blackwood and Sabina Šabić Public discussion Everyone Wants a View is an opportunity to bring attention to at least two important issues by using Bihać as an example – the shaping of public space on the one hand and the issue of collective environmental awareness on the other. The starting point for the conversation will be the same-name sculpture by the artist Alban Muja, which after several months of planning was placed on the roof of Kombiteks skyscraper in the Hatinac neighborhood of Bihać. By placing it in a dominant location within the city view and stepping into the public space, Muja's sculpture actually strikes the individuals who privatize the river bank and shape it according to their narrow-minded views. Therefore, this intervention is a distinct criticism addressed not only to those with extremely exclusive access to the river banks, but also a direct reminder to the authorities that they are obliged to protect the common good and natural wealth by all means to the satisfaction of all citizens.

  • Programmer/Head of Production: Jubilee-30 years of Cultural Resistance in Theatre at Sarajevo War Theatre
    2022 - 2022 · Less than a year

Cultural resistance: Importance of Siege Experience in Today’s Sarajevo War Theatre Mission The siege of Sarajevo was the longest siege in contemporary human history. One of the characteristics of this period was an amazing response of artists to situation they faced. As the result of that, artistic scene of Sarajevo in period 1992-19995 was one of the most interesting periods in all history of art in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Art and culture as the mean with the capacity for the improvement of the quality of life and social values are the starting point of theatrical activities of SARTR. Sarajevo War Theatre is the youngest theatre company established in Sarajevo, and especially specific is the fact that the establishment of this theatre is related to the period of siege of Sarajevo. The establishment of the theatre under that circumstances is actually one of the elements that supports the idea of a phenomenon which in that period has been recognized under the term of „cultural resistance "as the man’s need in the hardest of times to identify culture and art, in this case theatre, as the basic and completely natural human need. It is precisely that fact the one that gives a certain credibility to this Institution. It symbolizes the birth of a theater that became a hallmark of cultural resistance during the war in Sarajevo. Lacking its own space, it initially put on plays at other theaters and in alternative spaces. In August 1992, SARTR became a military unit at the Regional HQ for the BiH Armed Forces, and on January 12, 1993, the Wartime Presidency of the Assembly of the City of Sarajevo decided it would be a cultural institution that would play a special role in the city’s defense. For security reasons, its first production – the first wartime play – was put on at Youth Theater’s cabaret on September 6, 1992.
