My role involves: Product Development: Leading the design and engineering of our flagship solar mounting system, which leverages the versatility of strut channels. This system is designed to simplify installation processes, enhance flexibility, and reduce logistical challenges for distributors. Compliance and Standards: Ensuring all products meet stringent industry standards, including UL listings and structural requirements per ASCE 7. I work closely with regulatory bodies to guarantee that our solutions are easy to permit and meet all necessary codes. Business Strategy: Overseeing the overall business strategy, from product launch to market positioning, to ensure SolFX stands out in a competitive market. This includes managing relationships with distributors and expanding our market reach.
I am a Product Development Engineer with a deep expertise in the solar racking industry, specializing in designing innovative, compliant, and cost-effective solutions. With a strong background in product design, compliance, and team leadership, I have successfully led interdisciplinary teams to bring concepts from ideation to market-ready solutions. As a Project Engineer for a solar racking manufacturer, I played a pivotal role in developing key products, including grounding lugs, solar roof flashings, and structural hooks for tile installations. I worked closely with UL to obtain UL 2703 listings and designed a custom test rig for UL 441, ensuring our products met the highest industry standards for safety and performance. One of my notable achievements was developing an aluminum grounding lug that reduced costs by 50% while maintaining full compliance with UL 2703 and UL 467. Beyond product development, I provided technical training for sales teams, managed commercial racking system layouts, and ensured compliance with ASCE 7, SEAOC PV, IBC, IRC, and ICC standards. I also represented our company at industry trade shows, delivered technical presentations, and conducted on-site training sessions for installers. My technical expertise includes SolidWorks, AutoCAD, GD&T, 3D modeling, DOE, compliance, prototyping, extrusion, and UL certification processes. As a Mechanical Design Engineer for a privately owned robotics company I performed a cross-functional role, which was a combination of design, test, sustaining, and manufacturing engineering. ══ PROACTIVE ══ I was honored to lead the cost-down project to transition to new materials, saving the company $100,000+. I implemented across the board design change for new motors and gearboxes and coordinated with outside design engineers to manufacture a robotic finger. I also designed models and drawings to modify an existing product to suit specific customer needs. Collaborating with manufacturers to transition production of circuit boards, and cables, I’d communicate with our machine shop to ensure manufacturability of components for both production and research and development. I’d then provide scientific support to the sales team regarding the physics of the product.
