Rushia Brown, a South Carolina native and professional athlete, played 17 seasons of basketball across six countries, including a seven-year stint in the WNBA with the Cleveland Rockers and Charlotte Sting. A Furman University and Southern Conference Hall of Famer, she has also thrived in various business sectors, inspiring others worldwide. Brown served five years as a WNBA executive, notably helping relocate the San Antonio Silver Stars to Las Vegas and working with the Los Angeles Sparks. Now in Atlanta, she leads SERVCOM, Inc. and serves as a financial literacy consultant for EDYOUCORE. She is also on the Board of Directors of the National Basketball Retired Players Association. As the Director of Community Relations & Youth Sports for the LA Sparks, I led and coordinated programs across five pillars: Women & Girls, Social Justice, Youth Sports, Health & Wellness, and Military/Veterans Affairs & First Responders. I managed the budget, developed strategies for over 65 community partnerships, and collaborated with various departments to enhance outreach. I oversaw cause-related marketing efforts, built key relationships to serve over 1,000 youth, and ran the Sparks Youth Basketball Program. I also led staff, coaches, and interns, ensuring compliance with policies while supporting their development and mentorship.
As the Player Programs & Franchise Development Manager for the WNBA Las Vegas Aces, Rushia Brown confidently served as the vital link between players and the franchise, ensuring seamless program continuity. Brown's impactful contributions extended to structuring and implementing player development initiatives, encouraging strong player relations, and spearheading community outreach efforts. Her dedication also involved providing personalized mentorship to individual players, aiding in their skill development and overall game enhancement.
Selected to participate in a 3-month immersion experience within the league office to gain a deeper understand of the business behind basketball, understand how to use transferrable skills, learn business acumen and gain a view of career trajectory. I worked in International Basketball and the WNBA where I organized events responsible for growth in the women's basketball league and global grassroots for Basketball Without Borders.
