As a veterinary student with a background in wildlife conservation and extensive experience in hospitality management, I offer a unique blend of skills and passion for animal care and conservation. With a strong academic foundation, experience in animal handling and practical expertise in operations management, I'm eager to contribute to initiatives that prioritize the well-being of animals, both domestic and wild.
I conducted in situ research in population dynamics and carrying capacity of howler and capuchin monkeys in a potential release area of forest for a rehabilitation charity. I was also responsible for the cleaning and feeding of a variety of species, the upkeep of their enclosures, environmental enrichment, and assisting in the medicating of individuals. I was also involved in various veterinary procedures such as the euthanasia.
During my time at the wildlife custody centre, I was responsible for the health, well-being and care of a number of animals. During my time at RAREC, I assisted in the general management of the animals in the clinic: supervising and monitoring their health, routine handling and feeding, physical and chemical containment and assisting with medical check-ups, surgeries and necropsies. Daily work in the adult animals area also involved feeding the animals, maintaining and conducting improvements to their enclosures and designing various environmental enrichment techniques for the animals. In the vet clinic, the daily work involved the medical treatment of the animals in clinic and quarantine, feeding and caring for the animals in breeding and making improvements to their enclosures and the design of various environmental enrichment techniques for the animals.
In this role, I brought together a diverse set of skills and responsibilities, spanning bar management during events, reception and reservation tasks, overseeing dining services, cash handling, staff supervision, event coordination (including weddings, birthdays, and conferences), stock management, complaint resolution, and maintaining the high standards of a four-star hotel.
My most recent voluntary role involved; daily cleans and deep cleans of animal enclosures, feeding and welfare checks of animals and interacting with the general public.
While working at this rare primate centre, my roles included; preparing various animals feeds and feeding them, daily cleans and deep cleans of animal enclosures, administering certain medications, welfare checks of animals, collection of faecal samples for health checks, assisting with loris training and general site maintenance.
