Ruey serves as the Head of Innovation at Genesis Medtech where he identifies innovation partnerships & investments as part of the group-level BD team. HQed in Singapore, Genesis Medtech is a platform company focused on serving China, Japan, SE Asia, EU & LATAM physicians with innovative and affordable solutions in general surgery, cardio-neurovascular & valvular diseases. Ruey has been a member of Genesis’ pioneering team since its infancy. Concurrently, Ruey serves as a Founding Faculty & Mentor of Singapore Biodesign. Before Genesis, Ruey was the CEO & Founder of Advent Access, a medtech startup focused on vascular access and home hemodialysis technologies, where Ruey took the venture from concept, through clinical studies, to attaining CE Mark and FDA cleared products with an IP portfolio of > 40 patents. Prior to that, Ruey was the Program Director of Singapore-Stanford Biodesign (SSB) - an innovation joint venture between SG and Stanford University, where Ruey led the national office to be revenue generating, expanded SSB’s footprint regionally into Indonesia, Korea, China; and incubated projects and startups. Ruey was part of a SG govt (A*STAR-EDB) taskforce that brought the program from Silicon Valley into the country, and taught design-thinking methodology to doctors & engineers during SSB’s early days. While at SSB, Ruey double hats as the Entrepreneur-in-Residence of A*STAR’s H&L office where he finds, funds and manages projects towards commercial spin-off under the A*STAR-CIMIT collaboration, in partnership with Boston's Massachusetts General Hospital. With 20 yr experience in medtech, Ruey began his career in the trenches of Silicon Valley startups, first as R&D Engineer of USGI Medical Inc, then as a pioneering member and IP & R&D Manager of Voyage Medical Inc. Ruey is an inventor on > 50 patents in cardiovascular, surgical, GI & renal technologies. Ruey was MIT Tech Review‘s “Top 10 Innovators under 35, Asia Pac” in 2015, and finalist of the Asian Entrepreneurship Award in 2019. Ruey is a graduate of Stanford University’s Center for Biodesign as the Lucile Packard Innovation Fellow of 2008/09. Innovations he and his team developed that year led to the founding of 2 startups. Ruey obtained his Bachelor of Engineering with a minor in Technopreneurship (NOC @ Stanford University) from National University of Singapore.
