Whilst doing his WSQ professional Diploma in Game Development (Game Design) at Digipen, he developed with a team of 10 people a cross genre 3rd person shooter cum tower defence game from scratch using Half-Life 2’s Valve Hammer Level Editor. The Boss fight level that Pao Yong designed garnered acclaim from industry professionals like Ubisoft who had come to see his work.
Currently back as adjunct Lecturer teaching IT & Data Analysis for Business and Persuasive Communication with Data Storytelling since April 2024. Other modules taught include Artificial Intelligence & its Impact as well as Thinking Critically about the UNSDGs. Previously Full-time Lecturer until Dec 2022, in charge of teaching Game Design, UI/UX modules for Diploma in Media, Arts and Design - Game Design and Development Specialization. Single-handedly curated and crafted the game design and user experience design modules and lesson materials for the curriculum of the diploma course. Modules taught - Digital Game Design, Analog Game Design, Playlab (with Microbits), Design Theory and Research, User Interface and Experience Design, Game Design and Development Studios. Led and guide 3rd year FYP teams in their final year game prototyping development projects in the areas of user experience design and design theory research. Industry FYP collaborations with clients like SGGA, Singapore Police Force, SFX corporation as well as Invade.co.
Currently back teaching as an Associate Lecturer in Diploma in Design for Games and Gamification course since September 2023. Lecturer teaching Game Studies, Interaction Design, Play Experience Design, Introduction to UX, Graphic Design, Fundamentals of Design and Effective Communication modules to students undertaking Diploma in Games Design, Design for User eXperience and Media Production Design courses, as well as teaching MOE's AEM course on "Reinventing the Play Experience of Traditional Games" to secondary school students coming to attend the workshop at Republic Polytechnic.
